"It's not only children who grow. Parents do too. As much as we watch to see what our children do with their lives, they are watching us to see what we do with ours. I can't tell my children to reach for the sun. All I can do is reach for it, myself." -Joyce Maynard

Weekend with Grandma and Grandpa Shaffar...Or, My First Potato Chip
Grandma and Grandpa came to visit this weekend. We had corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, and homemade Irish soda bread on Friday with Don and Steph. Don made an amazing Boston Creme Pie...maybe we can get him to make one for your birthday sometime!
Saturday we went to Portland and bought Mommy a dragon boat paddle and a life-jacket for you. We can't wait to take you kayaking.
You also had your first potato chip. Grandpa had bought some that were lime flavored from Food for Less. You weren't quite sure what to do with it; we weren't quite sure if it was because it was crunchy or lime flavored ;)

Dad's Birthday and Six Month Check-up
Today is your Dad's birthday. And, we had your six month check-up. Your Great-uncle Ken Lougee had the following response to a family letter I sent out saying that your Dad would turn 33 today:
Andy is 33. It seems like yesterday that Betty Rae and I rode to Green River with his Jones Grandparents for the baby blessing. There were hundred of antelope between Evanston and Green River. Grandpa Jones was driving and he couldn't see them. Scared me to death.
As to your check-up...you were 19 pounds 11 ounces, 27 some inches long, and had a 45 cm head. You kind of freaked out on Kim but I think it was because you were really tired. As soon as we got you home, you took quite the nap. Tomorrow, you and I are going to go downtown for coffee and hang out together while Dad and Uncle Donald go to Portland for Dad's birthday.

First Time in the Bicycle Trailer
Today is your Grandpa Bud's 52nd birthday. I can only imagine how Grandma Abbie must feel about her "baby" turning 52.
It was a nice afternoon and we bought you a bicycle helmet so we thought we'd try out the bicycle trailer. Other than the helmet kind of flopping your head to one side, you didn't seem to mind riding in the trailer. It was a short ride. I plan on taking you downtown with me on Friday. We'll see how that goes.
